I like that you’re giving the news and not fake news. I got rid of my tv service 5 years ago because of all the commercials and reporting only the terrible news. I watch your podcast every day because I am a big fan of RFK, jr, too.
I see the fraud and collision in our healthcare system every day unfortunately. Now three months ago, we placed my Mom in assisted living. We let her decide which place she wanted to live. She gave us a smile of approval and so we jumped on it and made that move. Such a big step. Sadly, the day we moved in there was an announcement that the director had left and the Director of Nursing was brand new and not the Nurse that had done Moms original assessment. She assessed a level 4 out of 5 Assisted living conditions. After level 5 will be Memory Care.
Mom truly never complains or wants to bother anyone when she needs help, therefore she will not ask and has trouble remembering details of her day when we are not with her. It has been very hard to know what to expect of Level 4 care because they dropped the ball on her intake and orientation when she moved in. She has fallen asleep few times and they did not document it. They marked that she was given her meds at times when I was with her and know they did not. They dont check on her and have been dispensing her meds at very inconsistent times. No routine. And what really gets me is that those healthcare workers that truly care are paid so little and have to work in chaos and no real structure.
Fortunately, they love Mom and she likes all of the caregivers and Residents.
The industry of Senior residential healthcare is bonkers! They spend all this money to build out a brand new facility as well as Marketing and sales. They invite people to live there and charge an additional $600 for each level of care, ($2200 for what they originally offered). But its obvious that they are not yet organized and very understaffed to deliver what we were sold. The amount of time and Energy spent on rules and regulations that truly protect them from liability way more than for the residents safety, comfort and care. Its now been over 3 months and they cant get the job done consistently and I am still there every day because of it.
They threw a big GRAND OPENING party (that cost thousands) and I got the chance to listen to the CEO and Rounder explain to me that it takes at least 3 months for residents to get settled in as well as the staff. After 3 mos those who are not a good fit and not going to work out turn over. He told me that all Senior living healthcare employees are the same wherever you go. In other words, he doesn't concern himself too much about the systems of care too much because it is what it is everywhere. He seemed quite detached actually, but very boastful and proud of the newest facility that fills his pockets with lots more money Im sure.
They still try to sell us to pay more to use their Doctors and their pharmacies. All in the name of quality care. I feel gaslit by them as though Im compromising Moms quality of care if I dont give them complete authority and control for all decisions. Im just not buying what they are selling. They cant provide what Mom pays them to do as it is.
I keep looking deformed a window of opportunity or a tap on my shoulder from God to give me a vision of the best way I can be of Service to help find real solutions to the problems with this strangely upside-down system.
The worst part is that for decades Mom has trusted her Doctors and taken all pharmaceutical remedies that they suggested thinking she was being diligent and preventative so she lives longer and now we find out these medications were instrumental, if not responsible for her condition of Frontotemporal degenerative dimentia and Expressive Asphasia and Parkinsonism. She deserves so much better especially in America. God Bless RFKJR. I ask God to show me the way to be of Service to help advocate for all of our Elderly who's quality of life during their Golden years has been stolen by big Corporations and our politicians.
